Wear your most commonly worn shoes
Stand upright as naturally as possible on a firm level floor
Do not lean forward, relax your shoulders and arms
If you have less upper body strength, then flex your "cane holding" hand naturally at a 20 degree angle
If you have greater upper body strength, then flex your "cane holding" hand naturally at a 30 degree angle.
Never exceed a 35 degree angle, regardless of how strong your upper body is
Place the measuring tape at the center of your palm
Measure (or have someone else assist you in measuring) the length from the center of your palm to the floor as pictured to the right
